PurchasePlaytronTouchMeSynthsPlaytron is a MIDI controller. In other words this is something similar to your computer keyboard or mouse, without a host device, it doesn’t work. MIDI controllers are made specifically for music applications, allowing you to control most music software and hardware. Playtron sends this “music language” through its USB.
When you touch a conductive object connected to one of the 16 Playtron contacts, you will send what is called a MIDI Note. This can trigger either a note on an online synth (see our collection here), an app (see our example with Koala App here), or a music making software (also known as DAW or Digital Audio Workstation).
As Ableton Live is free to play (as long you don’t save the project), here you have a quick tutorial on how to add your own sounds:
If you follow the instructions, your Playtron should be also able to trigger these sounds. If you want to edit your own sounds, take a look at this video:
Another great option on Ableton Live is to use the Simpler tool. It’s also the quickest way to play with a single sample.
